Forster to help boost breastfeeding rates in North Mersey
Forster has won a competitive pitch to work with Knowsley, Liverpool and Sefton Primary Care Trusts on a social marketing intervention to increase the number of women who take up, and stick with, breastfeeding across North Mersey.
Medical evidence had demonstrated a wide range of benefits to mother and baby from breastfeeding, but rates in England are amoing the lowest in the world, with breastfeeding rates in North Mersey areas like Knowsley, Liverpool and Sefton amongst the lowest in England - less than 55%, comapred with an average of 78% nationally.
Forster is working with the North Mersey PCTs on a consultation exercise with health professionals to find out the barriers that might prevent women from trying breastfeeding and what could motivate them to do so. The results of the consultation will then be used to inform the development of an effective promotional strategy.
