Electrical Safety First awards

We’re proud to announce that our award-winning and hard-hitting safety video campaign for Electrical Safety First is now double award-winning.

The Beauty Burns video, designed to raise awareness among parents and lobby manufacturers and retailers that irresponsible use of hair straighteners causes one tenth of child burns, has scooped two awards.

Beauty Burns won the gold EVCOM Clarion award in the social media campaign category, along with the CorpComms Digi Award for “Best use of video in a campaign”.

We devised the campaign to raise awareness of the high temperatures that hair straighteners reach, encourage users to store them safely in a heat proof pouch and to prompt retailers and manufacturers to make customers aware of the dangers.

Our target audience was parents who used hair straighteners regularly but Electrical Safety First also wanted to reach a wider audience to ensure that retailers and manufacturers were made aware of the issue.

We secured 212 pieces of news coverage for the 30 second video, including articles on BBC News, Guardian Online and in The Daily Mirror and Daily Mail.  The charity also received 6,573 requests for heat-proof pouches via its website, against expectations of just 500. Two leading hair straightener manufacturers contacted Electrical Safety First and agreed to provide heat-proof pouches as standard with their products.
